Andi Newby

M.Ed in Environmental Education

My name is Andi Newby, and I have been teaching middle school since 2007. I currently teach science and marine biology to 7th and 8th graders on the shores of Galveston Bay. I believe that students learn best when they are experiencing science in the field, so I do my best to keep my students excited, engaged and muddy at all times.

As a military spouse, I have taught in many amazing locations, from sea level to the tops of mountains. I have climbed the cliffs of Acadia National Park with my students in Maine. I’ve snorkeled coral reefs with kids in Key West. I’ve taught students how to identify sea turtle nests on the beaches of North Carolina and I have identified red-tide causing phytoplankton with students in Galveston Bay. My desire to introduce students to new adventures in the places I love inspired me to create Changing Elevations. I hope that I am able to foster a love of science in kids while also encouraging them to explore locations in unfamiliar places. I believe that if I can help students change elevations geographically, then they can change elevations in their personal, emotional and academic lives.
