Marine Biology Camp

Join us for 4 days of marine biology explorations around Galveston. We will be getting wet and muddy, so a change of clothes and an adventurous spirit are required!

*This camp is for middle and high school students.

Itinerary:

Day 1:

• Use seine nets and dip nets to collect fish, shrimp, crabs and other organisms in the wetland.

• Explore how plastics affect the wildlife of Galveston Bay by examining nurdles at Sylvan Beach.

Day 2:

• Learn the similarities and differences between chondrichthyes (which are sharks and stingrays) through a shark dissection.

• Observe and feed stingrays at the Kemah Aquarium.

Day 3:

• Explore the diversity of wildlife at Galveston Island State Park by seine netting and dip netting in the bay.

• Dig for benthic invertebrates such as clams, crabs and worms below the tide line at the beach.

Day 4:

• Celebrate our final day of camp with the trip to Moody Gardens.

• Observe sea lions, penguins, jellyfish and other marine organisms in the aquarium, as well as sloths, monkeys and birds in the rainforest.
